Bush says committed to Middle East peace efforts ... Germany pledged 15 million euros towards this and together with the United States hope to collect nearly 120 million euros to help the Palestinian Authority to modernise its police force over the next three years. Also in attendance is Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. He called for a halt to Israeli settlement construction in the Palestinian territories, saying a freeze was a decisive factor in the search for Mideast peace.
