The US Supreme Court has passed a landmark ruling that individual Americans have the right to own guns for personal use.
The decision struck down a strict gun control law in the nation's capital. It was the first time in 70 years that the highest US court examined whether the Second Amendment of the US constitution guarantees the right to gun ownership in the country. On Wednesday, the Supreme Court also passed an historic ruling which struck down the death penalty for child rape, its first ruling in more than 30 years on whether a crime other than murder can be punished by execution.
