Polls have closed in Zimbabwe's run-off election with President Robert Mugabe assured of victory.
Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the Movement for Democratic Change, boycotted the second round of voting. Tsvangirai, who won the first round of the vote on March 29, said the results would reflect the fear of the people after a violent government campaign against opposition supporters. The run-off vote was held despite international calls for it to be postponed. Observers say turnout was low. The 14-nation Southern African Development Community had said that under the prevailing conditions the vote could not deliver a legitimate outcome.
