The announcement of Zimbabwe's presidential election results have been delayed late Sunday morning, according to a spokesman for the electoral commission.
The commission said the delay was because all the votes were not yet in. US President George W. Bush has said he will seek US sanctions against Zimbabwe after denouncing Robert Mugabe's uncontested run-off poll as a "sham", saying Zimbabwe's current government was "illegitimate". He said the US would also press for "strong action" at the United Nations, including an arms embargo on Zimbabwe and a travel ban on officials from Mugabe's regime. German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier said the European Union would also consider what additional steps it could take. Friday's run-off ballot was boycotted by opposition leader and first round winner Morgan Tsvangirai amid mounting violence against his supporters.
