Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is to be sworn in for another five-year term in a few hours' time.
Government sources made the announcement even before the results of the election were released. Mugabe is expected to win in a landslide after opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai pulled out of the race amid mounting violence against his supporters. Meanwhile, one of the few groups allowed into the country to monitor Friday's election has said that it was neither free nor fair. Zimbabwe dominates UNSC meeting ... that the election campaign was marred by high levels of intimidation and violence. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has denounced the vote, describing it as a farce. Steinmeier said in a statement that Germany welcomed the fact that the United Nations Security Council was planning to discuss possible action against Mugabe's regime in the coming week.
