Pakistan frees top militant leader ... have been killed in a missile attack on the headquarters a militant organisation.
The strike targeted offices of the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice Movement in the Khyber district, early on Monday. Pakistani security forces are mounting an offensive against militia threatening Peshawar, the capital of the country's North-West Frontier Province. Meanwhile, police in the capital Islamabad say a loud explosion heard there and in nearby Rawalpindi appeared to be a sonic boom, and not a militant attack as initially feared.
