been donated, according to previous information. The Czech Defence Ministry said in the past that NATO and especially the USA would cover the costs of the modernisation of the surplus helicopters before their transportation to Afghanistan. The costs were estimated at several hundred million crowns. The Czech army has more than 50 transport and multi-purpose helicopters and some 40 combat helicopters of various types. They also include helicopters that the Czech air force received from Russia as part of the payment of Russia's debt to the Czech Republic. It was 10 combat and 16 transport helicopters. The last of them was taken over by the Czech military in January 2006. Apart from helicopters, the Czech Republic also wanted to donate surplus weapons to Afghanistan. However, Afghanistan announced last July that it was not interested in receiving 20,000 sub-machine guns and 650 machine-guns from the Czech military. ($1=15.241 Czech crowns)
