A Paris court has ordered Internet auctioneer eBay to pay 40 million euros in damages to luxury goods group LVMH for selling fake goods online.
The commercial court said eBay had not done enough to stop sales of counterfeits on its website. The suit was brought jointly by six brands from the LVHM group, including Louis Vuitton, and perfume brands Christian Dior, Kenzo, Givenchy and Guerlain. The court barred eBay from selling perfumes of these brands in a ruling intended to send a strong message on copyright protection. eBay has said it is lodging an appeal.
