Pakistan frees top militant leader ... in Egypt has adopted a resolution calling for Zimbabwe's political opponents to begin a dialogue to prepare for a government of national unity.
A spokesman for the summit, who requested anonymity said the resolution encouraged President Robert Mugabe and the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change, Morgan Tsvangirai, to initiate dialogue with a view to promoting peace and stability. Earlier, Mugabe spokesman George Charamba told reporters that the UK and the West can "go hang" over its criticism of the Zimbabwean president. The equivocal reactions of many of the delegates at the AU summit in the resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh have surprised international observers who expected Mugabe to be widely criticised.
