The bill prepared by Education Minister Ondrej Liska (Greens, SZ), which deputies are to assess now, will also cancel the minimum number of pupils in small schools and facilitate conditions for obtaining another certificate of apprenticeship and for the recognition of certificates from foreign schools. Parents have to pay for a child during the first two years in Czech kindergartens, that is from the age of three to five.
The pre-school year has been free since 2005 when then Education Minister Petra Buzkova (Social Democrats, CSSD) cancelled the respective fees. Liska pointed out that this step did not prove successful as it did not attract kids from low-income families to kindergartens.
