The United States' top military commander has urged the government to seek a dialogue with Iran over its nuclear programme.
Admiral Mike Mullen, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said at a Pentagon press conference that attacking Iran would be extremely stressful for US forces. Tensions have risen amid reports in recent weeks that Israel was planning a possible strike against Iran's nuclear facilities. But Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said he did not think the US or Israel would attack in the near future, and even spoke of a new atmosphere in nuclear talks with the five Security Council members and Germany.
