The international community has expressed relief over the freeing of former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt and 14 others held for years by leftist guerrillas.

Betancourt and the 14 other hostages were rescued overnight by Colombian army commandos who posed FARC guerrillas dispatched to bring the hostages to another rebel hideout. The rescue happened without any shots being fired.
