The Colombian government says it is looking into establishing direct contact with FARC rebels in a bid to have more hostages released.
The move came just days after a Colombian military operation freed French-Colombian politician Ingrid Betancourt and 14 others, without a shot being fired. The FARC held Betancourt for more than six years. The Marxist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia have waged a four-decade battle against the Colombian government. They are believed to be still holding hundreds of hostages, mainly Colombians, in jungle hideouts.
