A European Ariane-5 rocket has blasted off from a space base in French Guiana and put two satellites into orbit.
It was the fourth launch of an Ariane rocket this year. One satellite is to provide television and broadband services for Southeast Asia. The other was released for Arabsat, the telecommunications group of the Arab League, and is designed for direct television broadcasting to the Middle East and North Africa. Meanwhile, the US space agency NASA has said its space shuttles will carry out another ten missions before before being taken out of service. The last shuttle launch is scheduled for May 2010. Most of the missions are to the International Space Station to carry out further work there.
