"We believe we will close the negotiations this week," Ivan Dvorak, Czech Defence Ministry official in charge of the talks, told CTK today. Another U.S.-Czech treaty related to the radar base, which is yet to be signed, is the SOFA treaty dealing with U.S. soldiers' status in the Czech Republic. Both treaties must be approved by Czech parliament, where, however, the government is not sure of sufficient support for the U.S. radar plan. The agreement on industrial and scientific cooperation will mainly be an opportunity for Czech institutions and industrial companies to join the development of the U.S. missile defence system. The USA has signed similar agreements on industrial and scientific cooperation, which bring new chances for the partner states and their involvement in the research of sophisticated technologies, with only a few countries, such as Britain, Australia and Japan.
