German police have arrested a Rwandan war crimes suspect in the German city of Frankfurt.
Callixte Mbarushimana, a former UN employee is wanted for his alleged role in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. Officials announced on Tuesday that he had been detained a day earlier at Frankfurt airport where he had intended to board a plane to Saint Petersburg. Rwandan authorities have demanded the extradition of Mbarushimana, a leader of the Hutu rebel Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR). Rwanda accuses the 44-year-old Hutu of killing and ordering the killing of some 30 Tutsis, including colleagues at the UN Development Programme.
