French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been addressing the European Parliament in Strasbourg, laying out his priorities for France's presidency of the European Union.
France took over the EU's six-month rotating presidency from Slovenia on July 1 amid falling popular support for the Lisbon Treaty, which envisages streamlining bureaucracy in the bloc.
