Italian Riccardo Ricco won the stage, fending off Alejandro Valverde of Spain and Australia's Cadel Evans in the final sprint. Schumacher crashed just 300 metres from the finish line after the 195-km sixth stage. Luxembourg's Kim Kirchen now leads the standings.
