Fire-fighters in the US State of California are battling to keep flames from reaching more homes after a lightning-sparked wildfire advanced in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
The wildfire destroyed at least 50 homes earlier in the week and has sent as many as 10,000 residents fleeing. It continues to burn through brush and trees, but officials said Thursday no other homes were reported lost. Fire-fighters are also battling a blaze near the city of Paradise, where nearly 4,000 homes are threatened. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has asked President George W. Bush for more fire-fighters.
