The European Commission is hosting a donor conference on Kosovo this Friday that hopes to raise nearly 1.5 billion euros to help rebuild its shattered economy.
The Kosovar government is to present a detailed development plan to EU representatives, international financiers and the United Nations at the meeting in Brussels. The United States has said it would pledge almost 300 million euros while the German government, the second largest source of foreign aid to Kosovo, is to provide 100 million euros. Kosovo seceded from Serbia in February. 43 mainly Western nations recognised an independent Kosovo. Serbia, backed by Russia, does not.
