Department spokesman Sean McCormack commented to a question about a possible indictment to be introduced next week by ICC chief prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo in the Hague. Sudan's ambassador at the United Nations, Abdalmahmoud Abdalhaleem Mohamad, said an indicitment would result in grave repercussions without saying what. United Nations officials have said they were worried that an indictment would endanger the lives of peacekeepers in Sudan. More than 300,000 people are believed to have been killed in the conflict and another two million have been displaced.
