Iraqi Vice-President Tariq al-Hashimi says he hopes German firms will again take the active part in Iraq that they played in the country in past decades.

US Senate approves war funds bill ... was now ready to welcome foreign investment and promised that the Iraqi government would give every assistance to German businesses seeking to come to Iraq. He was speaking after talks with German Minister of Economics and Technology Michael Glos who was on a short, surprise visit to Baghdad. Glos met also Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and Deputy Prime Minister Barham Salih as well as other trade and economic officials.
