After the launch of the Mediterranean Union, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on French television that no peace was possible in the Mideast without Syria's involvement.
He said a peace accord with Israel was a question that required six months to two years maximum if both parties were serious in engaging direct talks. Assad added that Middle East peace was unavoidable but that it was unlikely until a new administration took office in Washington. He said President George W. Bush had not vision for peace.
