Kurdish rebels have said they will release German hostages seized in eastern Turkey once a "peaceful climate" has been established. Germany's foreign ministry has not responded to Monday's announcement, which comes nearly a week after the three mountaineers were abducted while climbing Mount Ararat.
The Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, has so far also demanded that the Turkish military halt its operations in the Mount Ararat region, and has called on Germany to drop hostile policies towards the group. The PKK is listed by the European Union as a terrorist organisation and has been banned in Germany since 1993.
