German Chancellor Angela Merkel has welcomed United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon with full military honours upon his arrival in Berlin.
It's Ban's first official visit to the country. Merkel and the UN chief are expected to discuss global issues like climate change and food security, as well as reforms at the world body. Germany is seeking a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. On Wednesday, Ban is scheduled to visit the city of Bonn, where several UN agencies are based.
