Turkey's military says that its soldiers have killed 11 Kurdish guerrillas in an operation in the south-eastern Turkish province of Hakkari.
The operation was launched on Sunday after security forces identified a group of Kurdistan Workers Party militants, known as the PKK, in a mountainous area near the Iraqi border. Meanwhile, Berlin has expressed scepticism over reports from Turkey that a splinter group of the PKK is behind the kidnapping of three Germans last week. Turkish army says air strikes killed over 150 PKK rebels ... that a local group would carry out the kidnapping. The PKK, regarded as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and European Union, began an armed struggle against the Turkish state in 1984.
