He particularly praised German involvement in the reconstruction of Afghanistan, and also expressed gratitude for the work of a German mediator in helping bring about the prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hezbollah. The UN chief concluded his first official trip to Germany with a visit to Bonn, where a number of UN agencies are situated. Germany is seeking a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
