According to the Obama team the senator will visit Germany as part of a tour which will take in France, Israel, Britain and Jordan. There has been controversy over the venue in Germany of a planned campaign speech. Obama originally wanted to address Germany at the historic Brandenburg Gate in Berlin which was the venue in 1963 of a legendary visit by President John F. Kennedy. It is now thought that Obama may speak in front of Berlin's Siegessäule or Victory Column in the centre of the capital's famous Tiergarten park.
