Report: Syria, North Korea Helped Iran Develop Nuclear Program ... US officials are meeting in Geneva on Saturday for talks on Iran's nuclear programme.
The meeting marks the first high-level talks between the United States and Iran on the issue. Prior to Saturday's meeting in Switzerland, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice confirmed a shift in the Whitehouse's Iran policy. However, she insisted that the decision to participate in the talks did not mean that Washington's stance on Iran's nuclear programme had softened. Saturday's meeting is expected to focus on incentives for Iran to suspend its uranium and plutonium activities. Western countries suspect that Iran is secretly trying to develop the atomic bomb and the United Nations has slapped several sets of sanctions on Tehran over its refusal to halt enrichment. Iran strongly denies seeking nuclear weapons, insisting that its programme is for peaceful purposes only.
