US Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama is in Afghanistan at the start of a major international tour.
Correspondents say Obama is hoping to address security issues, seen as the weakest aspect of his presidential bid. Obama has called for adding up to 10,000 US troops in Afghanistan and shifting from what he said was a "single-minded" focus on Iraq by the Bush administration. The United States currently has about 36,000 troops in Afghanistan. Obama is due to hold talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai on Sunday. He is later expected to visit Iraq, Jordan, Israel, Germany, France and Britain.
