Up to half a million Catholic faithful have gathered in Sydney, Australia, to see Pope Benedict XVI lead a giant Sunday mass.
The pope arrived by helicopterat a large Sydney racecourse where he is to give his final major speech of the week. The service will provide a finale to a week of World Youth Day festivities. At the final mass the pope will announce the host city of the 2011 World Youth Day. Organisers say the mass will be one of the biggest public events ever held in Australia.
